Configuration Utilities
The Remote Monitoring Controller (controller.exe
"Example") allows a user to select what
type of activity the client (client.exe "Example")
should record. The controller is used to view
all logs and configure the client before monitoring
sessions. If a user does not require certain activity
to be recorded then they can disable it to reduce
memory consumption.
General Settings
Most Real Time Monitoring Software products are
equipped with a warning dialog. This can be shown
when the monitoring client starts or can be disabled
if needed. The warning will timeout after 15 seconds
or so if not closed by the user. It dialog can
typically be configured with custom messages.
Network Connections
Most Realtime or Monitoring Software applications
will either enable or disable the server socket
which is allows the controller.exe to connect
to the Spy or Monitoring Client (client.exe) through
a TCP/IP Connection. The controller can only make
a connection by using the unique port number on
most applications. Although some use port configurations,
other programs like Realtime
Spy upload logs to a secure ftp server. Typically
in most realtime monitoring or realtime spy applications
if the server is enabled and a password is not
set for the client a rogue connection can be made.
Activity Monitoring Settings
Most realtime monitoring applications will record
each user login time and logoff time at Windows
Start-up. All logs are saved and events are timestamped
accordingly.
Web Pages & Folders
Typically realtime spy software applications will
record all websited visited and internet explorer
folders that are opened. Most only support Internet
Explorer 4.0 or greater.
Internet Connections
Real Time Monitoring programs will also record
all internet connnections when the client.exe
is running and timestamp all of these internet
connections respectively in most cases.
